IT Infrastructure Review |
| Career Services Information Services (IS) was working towards improving the relevance of IT services to their geographically dispersed business. Recognising that they needed to improve flexibility and responsiveness, they sought help to develop an IS Strategic Plan that was closely aligned to the strategic direction of Career Services. | FMG Information Services needed to ensure their infrastructure support services were supporting the needs of the organisation, and that IT practices were sufficiently robust and aligned with best practice in order to accommodate a significantly more complex technical and support environment planned in the future. | |
Working closely with the Career Services leadership team we developed the 2003 ISSP to explicitly align the activities of IS with the needs of Career Services. We stayed close to Career Services after the ISSP was delivered to support the teams and encourage and celebrate their successes.
Maven carried out a business user survey to obtain feedback regarding the services being delivered by the infrastructure support team, and to gather future support expectations. The Cobit framework was used throughout the review as every aspect of IT services is encompassed within various Cobit domains. Recommendations for improvements were provided and prioritised with the business. | |
| The relationship between Career Services business and the IS Team improved radically in the intervening years as the IS Team members ‘went the extra mile’ in support of their business. The ISSP is a relatively simple plan that was, and is, used to guide and encourage the activities of the IS team. | Maven created an easy to read baseline highlighting the gaps between the current state of IT practices, and the desired future states. The business user survey results enabled Maven to identify for FMG any gaps between existing service levels and those expected by the business, both now and in the future. |
